A new sports car inspired by a legendary Formula One race car and carrying an iconic name from Coventry’s motoring past is to be launched at Motofest 2015.
The Climax Café Racer, inspired by the legendary Cooper Climax F1 car and the world famous manufacturer of Grand Prix engines, will make its public debut on the roads during the Motofest weekend.
A car steeped in Coventry’s motoring history, it’s the brainchild of Simon Long and Marcus Rayner, former Coventry University Automotive Design graduates, whose dream of developing and launching a car in the heart of Coventry first took shape in 2005.
After sketching out the original designs in the city and registering the Climax company name, the car has been developed from a prototype to the revolutionary, bespoke sports coupe set to be launched at Motofest.
Abdul Ghafoor, Business Director at Climax Cars, said: “We are proud to announce the launch of our Climax Cafe Racer at Coventry Motofest 2015.
“No other city in United Kingdom has a heritage of motor sport innovation and development to match Coventry. We have always wanted to set up our business within this region because of its history and connections.
“We feel this is the ideal event for our launch as we believe the Cafe Racer is essentially a modern classic and where better to showcase our car than at the festival dedicated to celebrating the UK’s home of motoring.”
The Café Racer running at Motofest will be a show car model. After securing an exclusive agreement with Subaru, the Climax Cars team are now ready for production.
Abdul Ghafoor, adds: “We are currently in negotiations of our new factory site from where we will be building our Climax Cafe Racer together with building bespoke cars for other manufacturers and individuals.”
A mid engine two seat open sports car, the Cafe Racer currently uses the latest generation of Subaru power train to drive the rear wheels.
With an engine that produces up to 500bhp, the bodywork on the show car is hand rolled aluminium and the production cars will also be offered with carbon fibre and GRP body work options.
Coventry Motofest is a three-day festival – running from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31 – dedicated to the city’s motoring heritage involving pop-up racing, demonstration events, static displays, live music and fringe events.
