Coventry MotoFest 2015
You may have seen media reports today which suggest that Motofest have cancelled the Sprints on the Ring Road.
This is not the case. We are still going ahead with live motorsport action on the ring road sprint circuit, but we are just not timing the runs and there will be no overall competitive race classifications.
Aside from that everything else remains the same and we are still the only motoring festival in the UK to stage a sprint circuit on the public roads.
For a full explanation, over to our Festival Director James Noble.
James Noble, Motofest Festival Director, said: “With regards to time trialling as part of Motofest 2015, we would like to take the opportunity to clarify the current situation.
“Coventry Motofest 2015 will feature live motorsport in partnership with the BARC, ORCi, Brisca, BDC and other motor sport governing bodies.
“However the final part of the legislation required to regulate the issuing of licences to be issued for competition was not completed before the general election. For this reason the motorsport taking place this year will be without any timing or competition for places.
“The participating drivers will be showcasing their skills as they drive around the specially constructed circuit, in turn creating an exciting and thrilling motorsport spectacle.
“The Motofest team and Coventry City Council remain committed to staging full racing on its streets as soon as the legislation is in place.
“This year’s event will provide a fantastic demonstration of live motorsport on a city street circuit and in doing so remains one of the only motoring festivals in the UK to provide this opportunity.”
