MotoFest is to welcome back its current lap record holder as Roger Clark Motorsport’s (RCM) Olly Clark gets set to unleash Gobstopper 3 onto the unique Ring Road Sprint Circuit at this year’s event.

Having set the current lap record of 69.64 seconds for completing the 1.1 mile Sprint Circuit in the original Gobstopper back in 2018, Olly will return with the aim of going even faster in the latest in the Gobstopper series of sprint and hill climb cars.

The Gobstopper 3 will make its first 2022 competitive appearance at MotoFest, in partnership with E.ON Drive,  on Saturday 10^th and Sunday 11^th September. It will take part in the MotoFest Coventry Sprint event, which forms rounds 27 and 28 of the 2022 British Automobile Racing Club’s (BARC) Connaught Speed Championship.

It will give Olly Clark the opportunity to add to his sprint achievements with MotoFest Coventry’s sprint competition triumph in 2018, adding to victories on Goodwood Festival of Speed’s famous hill climb in 2015 and 2016 respectively.  

For those visitors attending MotoFest in partnership with E.ON Drive, they will also get the opportunity to see the fantastic feat of engineering involved in the Gobstopper 3 car. Based on a Subaru BRZ 2.0L platform and boasting a mid-mounted EJ20 Subaru engine, the turbocharged four-wheel drive sprint monster is equipped with 930 BHP and 636 LBS/FT torque to power it around the circuit.

The BARC championship rounds mark the return of competitive motorsports to the MotoFest Sprint Circuit for the first time since 2019. MotoFest has worked closely with the Motor Sports Association (MSA) and Coventry City Council to get the green light for competitive motorsport and in 2018, the MSA issued a licence for the first MotoFest Coventry Sprint Championship event.

Driven International, the renowned international circuit designers, have also worked closely with MotoFest to develop the circuit design and infrastructure required to stage time trialing on the unique Ring Road circuit.

Olly Clark, said: “We are really looking forward to coming to MotoFest and taking part in the BARC Sprint Championship.

“We had a great time in 2018 and it was a real bonus to set to the lap record for the circuit, when we last had Gobstopper at the event.

“The new Gobstopper 3 Subaru BRZ will be making its 2022 competitive debut at MotoFest and we can’t wait to get out on the circuit and show the crowds what the car can do.”

Alongside Gobstopper 3’s appearance and the BARC Sprint Championship, there will also be plenty more to excite petrol heads and motoring enthusiasts both on and off the track, including the Shred Shed Live show in the new dedicated Drift Arena.

Shred Shed Live is the first of its kind, a live action show that combines elements of a West End play with motoring mayhem. Teams FastR and Crewsade come together to tell a story old as time itself, the good guys vs the bad guys, or in this case, fresh and clean cut FastR vs street punks Crewsade.

Each of the teams taking part in the show are rich with major names in the motorsport, stunt, competition or precision driving world, including Aims Hill, Tess Whittock, Luke Woodham, Penden Nielson, Martin Richards, Al Harris, Marcus Clare and many more!

The popular Formula G series will return again to this year’s event on Saturday 10^th and Sunday 11^th September with a static display of their competition vehicles in the city centre. Formula G is the UK’s national gymkhana championship, sanctioned by Motorsport UK. It’s a thrilling, head-to-head competition that combines elements of autosolo, drifting and tarmac rallying as competitors duel to complete highly technical courses in the fastest time.

With the BARC Sprint Championship, Formula G and Shred Shed Live very much part of MotoFest Coventry’s motoring present, the motoring past will also be well represented at this year’s festival with car and motorcycle displays and dynamic runs on circuit. As with previous events, there will be a dedicated area in Broadgate and surrounding areas of the city centre with hundreds of car and motorcycles on display.

The Coventry Concours premium car show will again take place on Saturday 10^th and Sunday 11^th September with the opportunity for premium vintage, classic cars and motorcycles to display in the iconic Coventry Cathedral Ruins. This year’s event will have a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee theme, showcasing 70 years of the City’s motoring heritage, with an expanded entry criteria to include vehicles from 1952 right up to the modern day.

MotoFest’s partnership with E.ON Drive will also see the event showcase the latest in advanced automotive, future and electric vehicle (EV) technology. Alongside an autonomous vehicle demonstration area.

The festival weekend will also provide the finale for ‘Our Future Moves’, a project involving Coventry City Council, MotoFest Coventry and other regional partners, which showcases the region’s work in world leading transport innovation, though a year-long celebration of events and activities.

Our Future Moves was officially launched in July 2021, with a major exhibition at Coventry Transport Museum. It also formed part of the first weekend of MotoFest Month 2021, which included motorcycle and car themed events.

CycleFest at MotoFest will see two hugely popular Coventry events join forces to offer thousands of riders the opportunity to take part in a ride around the unique Ring Road sprint circuit.

For the first time ever, the free CycleFest event will be integrated into the MotoFest, in partnership with E.ON Drive, festival weekend on Saturday 10th September, with the previous daytime ride becoming an exciting new twilight ride experience.

The free to attend daytime CycleFest programme from 10am will feature a Cycling Expo, with a Go Ride skills course, a learn to ride area, e bikes, e cargo bikes and various cycling activities, including pedal your own smoothie and a free bicycle health check with Dr Bike.

Moving into the also free evening session, the MotoFest Sprint Circuit on the Coventry Ring Road will be opened up for cyclists to ride their bicycles in a safe environment. As with the previous seven public cycle events, there will be the opportunity to ride on the traffic free Ring Road from 7.30pm, but this time with a unique MotoFest twist to it.

The new 3.7km circuit, starting from Greyfriars Green opposite Coventry Railway Station, includes uphills, downhills, turns and chicanes and will use both sides of the Ring Road, rather than the one lap format featured at previous events. The sprint circuit will be transformed into a family friendly cycling space from 7.30 – 9.30pm and is the perfect opportunity for the next generation to learn to cycle safely at night.

As a family event children must be accompanied by an adult at all times, with five years old the recommended minimum age for riders. Those adults wanting to bring along children under five may do so providing they are secured in a child seat, trailer or cargo bike. Some cargo bikes with seats for two small children will be available to hire at the event.

The integration of CycleFest into MotoFest is part of this year’s festival commitment to showcasing sustainable future transport solutions. This will include displays featuring the latest alternatively fueled vehicles, electric cars and advanced automotive technology.

MotoFest, in partnership with E.ON Drive, is to host an evening music concert, named the MotoFest After Party, with the aptly named Carpark, a London based all-female group, headlining the event.

The free to attend concert, on Saturday 10^th September at Warwick Road in the City Centre, will see Carpark, line up with West Bromwich based indie rock band Wounded Spirit. They will be supported by Birmingham reggae artist Metz Jnr band and Coventry alternative rock group Luna Kiss and Coventry based covers band, Mind the Gap in a celebration of rising musical stars and established performers from across the Midlands region.

The festival headliner Carpark, comprising of Scottie, Hattie and Loda, are an indie rock band described as ‘Hiam meets 5SOS’ and already making their mark in the music industry.

With BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders and Nels Hylton championing the band and appearances on the BBC Future Artists show, the MotoFest audience will soon see why Carpark are being tipped for the top, as the trio get set to perform at this year’s festival.

Alongside the up-and-coming Carpark, the more well-established Wounded Spirit are also currently making musical waves, with their track, Outside, from second album U Me and the Ocean, featured on new Channel 4 drama, The Undeclared War.

It’s the latest milestone in a whirlwind few years for the band, having won Best Album for their debut effort FOREVER young at the 2019 Black Country Music Awards. They have followed that success up with U Me and the Ocean, which is already attracting rave reviews.

The band have toured both albums extensively this year with a series of national gigs and are now ready to bring their unique blend of bright vocals and diverse sounds to the stage at MotoFest, in partnership with E.ON Drive.

Formed as recently as 2020, Metz Jnr band are a six-piece group Inspired by reggae, ska and diverse musical influences from around the world. The Birmingham based group has packed a lot into a short space of time since first forming including playing a sold out show in their home city and launching their debut album, ‘The Sun’, earlier this year.

Scottie, vocalist and bass guitarist for Carpark, said: “We can’t wait to play at such an iconic event. It’s fantastic to be headlining and we are looking forward to putting on an awesome show.

The musical feast being served up for this year’s festival is part of a broader entertainments’ menu featuring a host of activities across the festival weekend. In addition to the main concert on Saturday night, there will be live music across both days with various stages featuring local Coventry and West Midlands performers and community groups.

The hugely popular Digbeth Dining Club will help create a dedicated food and drink village, along Warwick Road. With its array of street food vendors serving up a variety of tasty offerings, visitors will have ample opportunity to keep well fuelled throughout the festival weekend.

There will also be the traditional funfair with rides and attractions, competitions and challenges for adults and children alike, along with various interactive activities including motorsport simulators.

A further exclusive circuit experience is on offer through a new joint collaboration with Coventry City Council, as the popular CycleFest event comes to the MotoFest Sprint Circuit on the evening of Saturday 10^th September. 

CycleFest at MotoFest, which last year took place at Millenium Place, is this year being integrated into the main MotoFest Coventry festival. As a result, CycleFest at MotoFest will offer thousands of riders the opportunity to take part in a ride around the unique Ring Road   Sprint Circuit with the event commencing from 6.30pm onwards, following the completion of the day’s motorsport track programme.

MotoFest’s Coventry Concours is to feature a special guest appearance from the iconic ECD 400 Jaguar E-Type at this year’s premium car show.

The ECD 400 Jaguar E-Type will make a triumphant return to its home city, just over 60 years since it started its life as one of the seven project cars built for the E-type launch in 1961.

It became further immortalised in Jaguar history a month after the launch, when Formula One champion and motor racing legend Graham Hill drove the car to its first race victory at Oulton Park.

The ECD 400 car also featured in last year’s Jaguar E-Type 60-year anniversary celebrations at the London Classic Car Show and a year on it will take pride of place at this year’s Coventry Concours show. 

This year’s Coventry Concours will take place on September 10th and 11th, as part of the main MotoFest festival weekend. The free to attend event will once again give the opportunity for premium vintage, classic cars and motorcycles to display in the iconic Coventry Cathedral Ruins.

For this year’s event there will be a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee theme, showcasing 70 years of the City’s motoring heritage. In order to mark the full 70 years of the Queen’s reign, Coventry Concours 2022 has expanded its entry criteria to include motorcycles and modern vehicles from 1952 right up to the modern day.

As with last year’s event, Coventry Cathedral Ruins will provide an atmospheric backdrop to proceedings, enabling Coventry Concours to emulate the glamour and glitz of globally renowned concours d’elegance such as Valetta and Hampton Court events.

It will also feature a celebrity judging panel, a number of whom are Sustainable Skills Networks Ambassadors representing one of the event’s co-hosts, Association of Heritage Engineers (AoHE). Those judges confirmed so far are Sarah Crabtree, from TV’s Bangers and Cash fame, Chris Haynes, Classic supercar expert and YouTube channel host Iain Tyrrell, Chris and James Elliott, Editor in Chief of Octane magazine.

The inaugural Coventry Concours took place on Saturday 24th July and Sunday 25th July 2021 and followed on from a successful online ‘Coventry Concours’ event in June 2020.

It was won last year by a 1939 Daimler DB18 Dolphin, owned by Adrian Clarke and with a rich Coventry history. The blue and silver pre-war tourer was manufactured in Coventry’s Daimler factory in 1939 and despite suffering bomb damage during the Blitz, survived to make its glorious return to the city as the Coventry Concours winner over 80 years later.

It will be two wheels leading the charge at this year’s MotoFest in partnership with E.ON Drive, with the traditional ride in from the beautiful Draycote Water to the main Sprint Circuit again providing the curtain raiser for the festival.

As with 2021 and 2019, it will be the motorcycles taking the lead with organisers hoping to attract over 500 classic and modern two wheeled machines to kickstart the weekend’s activities.

Riders are invited to join organisers on Saturday 10^th September at Draycote Water, Rugby from 7.30am for a picture-perfect ride into Coventry.

The supercars are to make a welcome return to this year’s MotoFest, in partnership with E.ON Drive, with the popular crowd pleasers set to give another high-powered performance on the closed Ring Road Sprint Circuit.

The Supercar Driver Club (SCD) – the UK’s leading club for supercar drivers – will make their third appearance at the event with around 70 members and their cars due to appear across the two days on Saturday 10^th and Sunday 11^th September. 

All the SCD cars will take to the circuit each day for a special supercar parade display, in what promises to be one of the most spectacular sights of the festival weekend.

Alongside the Lamborghinis, Ferraris, McLarens and Porsches set to light up the main sprint circuit, there will also be a trio of SCD members’ ‘star cars‘ to get the pulse racing for motoring enthusiasts attending the festival.

E.ON Drive is the lead brand partner for MotoFest Coventry in 2022. E.ON Drive is part of energy supply and solutions provider E.ON and provides an end to end electric vehicle charging service for customers.

First off the grid to look out for is the Noble M600, with the model coming to MotoFest an ex-Noble show car that featured on Top Gear, where it was driven by Jeremy Clarkson, the Stig and Richard Hammond. Next up is the Jaguar Project 8, one of only 300 built and with a 5.0 litre V8 engine producing 592bph, it promises to be a spectacular homecoming for Jaguar’s fastest ever production car. 

Finally, there is the Aston Martin F1 Edition, the fastest of the already sporting Vantage models. It features engineering used in the development of the Vantage Formula 1 Official Safety Car and with a 4.0 litre, V8 engine producing 527BHP, its 195mph top speed makes it ideal for a spin around the MotoFest sprint circuit.

As well as taking to the sprint circuit the SCD cars, which in line with this year’s EV focus are set to include hybrid supercars, will be on static display in a new dedicated supercar paddock, located next to Greyfriars Green.

This year’s MotoFest, in partnership with E.ON Drive, will have a significant future technology focus, showcasing the latest alternatively fuelled vehicles, electric motorcycles, MotoFest are delighted to welcome Maeving, a Coventry based Electric motorbike company, who are leading in the electrification journey.

Maeving electric motorcycle can be seen on the E.ON Drive stand, along with the Veloce Extreme-E racing team   and cars and advanced automotive technology. The new future technology zone, based in the Greyfriars Green festival site, will see exhibitors committed to showcasing the latest electric vehicles and motorcycles.

The festival weekend will also provide the finale for ‘Our Future Moves’, a project involving Coventry City Council, MotoFest Coventry and other regional partners, that showcases the region’s work in world leading transport innovation, though a year-long celebration of events and activities.

MotoFest, in partnership with E.ON Drive, is a two-day festival dedicated to the city of Coventry’s motoring heritage, taking place on Saturday 10^th September and Sunday 11^th September 2022. It will feature a unique blend of racing demonstrations, static displays, live music and anything else with a connection to Coventry, transport and the city’s motoring heritage.
